This unusual structure at Kingston Road and Midland Avenue served as a refreshment stop for travellers heading for the Scarborough Bluffs.

An iconic mural at Kington Road’s “Stop 17” (St. Clair Avenue East and Kingston Road) depicts the era of the radial trams along Kingston Road.

A legacy of the radial streetcar is the system of identifying the stops with numbers, and to this day long-time Scarberians still refer to this intersection as “Stop 14,” and to that at St. Clair as “Stop 17,” where a local store incorporates the old number in its sign.

Though Kingston Road offered more than a half-dozen hotels between the Norway and West Hill toll houses, such as Jonathan Gates’s establishment at Bellamy Road and Kingston Road, none attained the celebrity of the old Halfway House.
